PostSubject: The 'NOT' Date ((Closed to Luke)) ((PG-13))   June 7th 2010, 9:39 am

The sun began to shine through the windows of the Athena cabin on that bright morning. Who was the sun beating down on? Why Miss Laura Arai who was still fast asleep in bed. Now due to the extra heat added on, she awoke with a yawn and pushed her blanket off of her. She got up and stretched before pushing her bed up against the wall so her siblings would have room to work. Grabbing for her bag full of clothes, she got dressed, put on her blue baseball hat, then returned the bag to where it was. Patting her pocket to be sure that she had One with her, she headed for the door.

As Laura walked towards the door, her stomach began to gain butterflies. Why was she so nervous? She was just going to go out and fight some monsters with Luke. They might be alone, but it wasn't a date. She was still nervous anyway. It's not like people would really be around like the day they had headed down for the climbing wall. They would have total privacy except for the oncoming monster, which was just what they would be looking for.

Taking a step outside the door (and closing it behind her) Laura began to head for the edge of the woods. They said that they would meet at the edge of the woods so that way neither one would have a headstart over the other. You could say that they were almost doing a competition to see who could take down the most beasties. She smiled at the thought of taking Luke down in such a competition. It would be a challenge, but definetly possible.

Finally, Laura arrived at where the two said they would meet. It wasn't long after she arrived that she saw Luke coming over. "Hey Luke!" She called out with a wave. Soon enough they would start their competition. "Ready to go?" She asked him.

Luke woke up early, knowing he had something to do. For a second, he couldn't remember what it was, but then it hit him. He was meeting up with Laura, and going to kick some monster butt. She had missed out last night with the harpies, so Luke had offered to go to the woods with her. Not that it was a date or anything.... was it?

Getting out of bed, he got a quick shower and put on his clothes. Today, instead of jeans he was wearing tracksuit bottoms. They gave him easier movement, so he'd be able to kick a monster's butt easier. Glad he was up so early, he grabbed his ring, which was his sword, Breaker, and went to the dining pavillion to get some food. No point fighting on an empty stomach!

After his second bowl of pineapple (which had come after his second bowl of cereal - hey, he's a growing lad!), he started to make his way to the edge of the woods, a massive grin on his face. Today was gonna be fun. A chance to hang out with his friend, and to practice fighting against monsters... what more could an adventure loving half blood want? That, and he wanted to keep in practice with his sword. Some people he had met at camp seemed to be slightly crazy - psycho crazy, not just crazy crazy like Roxanne. He wanted to be able to defend himself against them away from water. Which was one of the big things about going to the woods. He needed to get stronger out of water, so he wouldn't have to depend on it all the time. Of course, he had cheated a bit - he had a bottle of water with him now. But that was just in case he got thirsty.... Or badly injured. He had a bit of ambrosia and a flask of nectar for Laura too, in case she hadn't brought any. It helped to be prepared, and Luke thought Laura would be, but this was just in case she wasn't.

As he got closer to the woods, he saw Laura waving at him and call over to him. He waved back.

"Hiya Laura!" He called back. When he was closer, she asked him if he was ready to go. "Helll yeah! Those monsters won't know what hit them... This is gonna be fun. You got any ambrosia or nectar on you? Cos I brought some with me, just in case you haven't."

When Luke asked if she had any nectar or ambrosia on her, Laura's face went white. She knew that she had forgotten something, but it just didn't occur to her until then. Of course, she had forgotten the little bit of ambrosia she always carried with her. Hanging her head in shame she spoke, "No I forgot some," in an upset tone. Ever so slowly, when Luke said he had brought some just in case she had forgotten, her head began to peel upwards slowly. The look on her face said 'OMG YOU'RE MY HERO!' which probably weirded him out.

"Thanks," Laura said with a smile, her head now fully up. It was nice to know that someone usually came prepared. Usually that someone was her, but she was glad to know that even if she hadn't been the prepared person, someone else was. It was the little things like that that gave her hope for the future of humanity. That hope was the little she did have left for it. Then again Luke was a demigod, not exactly human.

"Alright! Then let's get going!" Laura darted into the woods quickly. Apparentally she had been a bit too enthusiastic about going on this little trip, so she had gone ahead. Realizing her mistake, she stopped and waited. While she waited she took One out of her pocket and let it transform. That's when curiousity stuck her. She was still holding the headphones, but a dagger was in her hand. On the bottom of the dagger there was a small hole, like where you would plug headphones in. Above it there were three buttons. Deciding to take a chance, she stuck the headphone cord into the hole and put on of the headphones to her ear. Then she pressed one of the buttons and suddenly a song was playing! It was absolutely amazing! Of all the 9 years she had been in possesion of One, she had never known about this little secret her dagger had hidden.

"You're slow," Laura said as she stuck out her tongue when Luke finally caught up. She unplugged the headphones and stowed them away in her pocket. "So how do we do this? I've never actually gone out looking for monsters, they usually find me." A chuckle followed her words. It was true, last night was a good example too.

Luke shook his head in amusement as Laura raced off into the woods. Talk about overenthusiastic. He went through the woods at an even pace, not rushing. After all, they had all day.

Your slow, Laura told him when he caught up with her. Luke knew he could be fast when he wanted, and Laura knew this from their game of tag when they had first met. But he'd play along. We'll see whose slow when we get to the fighting...

He saw the headphones sticking out of Laura's dagger, and raised his eyebrows. A dagger that played music? Well, it was an mp3....

When Laura asked him what they were to do about the monsters, Luke shrugged.

"We could wait for some to find us, if you want. Or we can summon one. Your choice. Summoning one would deinitely be quicker though."

This would be the second time Luke had fought with hs sword. Last night had been the first, and he thought he'd done pretty good with it. Of course, last night he'd also been right next to the ocean, so he had had an advantage. Speaking of his sword.... Luke twisted his ring around Breaker appeared in his hand. He was ready to fight any monster that came at him.

"Hmm, summoning would be fastest, but how would we summon it?" Laura asked as she faced Luke. "Maybe it would just be better to go out searching for one. That would make it far more fun, like a game of cat and mouse!" She exclaimed with a bright look on her face. The comparison she had made brought a smile to her face. She liked knowing that for once she was the predator, not the prey.

"Hang on! Be quiet for a second!" Laura waited a moment to be sure she had heard what she thought she had. "Did you hear that?!" Of course she was talking about the faint breathing that seemed to be not too far off. It had to be a monster! Well either a monster or another demigod, but usually a demigod didn't make that sort of racket while breathing. A monster usually had a louder breath.

Off in her train of thought, wondering what it could've been, there was a loud crack in the direction of the breathing. Instantly whatever it was caught Laura's attention. It had to be a monster, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Seems like we didn't have to search very hard, she thought to herself as she began to cautiously walk towards the crack, One in her hand ready to attack. Her eyes darted back to Luke momentarily.

"Come on," Laura whispered.

Luke shut up when Laura said she heard something and listened. He heard a loud breathing. Either it was a monster, or that crazy Lance guy who had tried to kill Alex and taken Laura hostage, trying to get her back for slicing him open last night. Either way, whatever it was was going to get it's butt kicked.

But a demigod wouldn't make such a noise, especially one trying to be sneaky and get revenge. The cracking sound confirmed it. They definitely hadn't had to look to far for the monster - it seemed it had come for them. Luke readied himself, Breaker in his hand, and followed Laura. He was serious now. A fight with a monster was never to be took lightly. While some might be easier to kill than others, they were all difficult. There was always the danger that someone could get hurt, or worse.

"Right, let's get this thing!" Luke whispered back. "We need to draw it out though... it has the advantage while it's hidden."

Of course, Laura probably already knew this. Been a daughter of Athena, strategy was he thing. Athena was also the goddess of war. To be honest, Luke would rather have an Athenian with him than an Ares kid. For one thing, Athenians had brains as well as brawn, so he could have a decent conversation with one. For another, he quite liked spending time with Laura. The 'not that it's a date' bit had been hurriedly added on, but.... had he meant it? Maybe this could be taken for a date... Would Luke be bothered? Not really...

He shook these thoughts out of his head. They could wait. Right now, he needed to focus on the monster.

Of course! Drawing it out would've made much more sense the just jumping in after it. Laura was a daughter of Athena, why hadn't she thought of that? Then again she had to cut herself a bit of slack. After all she had never gone out hunting monsters, she had always been the huntee, but now she was the hunter. It kinda felt good to be the one out looking for a monster instead of a monster looking for a demigod to snack on.

"Alright, uhm . . . " Laura whispered back. She probably sounded stupid, but most of her siblings did that as well while they were thinking, so at least she wasn't alone in that area. Well most monsters were looking for demigods, so they could just talk really loudly and wait for whatever it was to pounce. Then again if they did that it would be more of a surprise to them because they wouldn't know just when whatever it was would pounce. It would be an okayish plan, but definitely not the best.

Biting her bottom lip, she turned to Luke. "Uhm well do you have any ideas of how we should lure it out?" Of course now she probably seemed a bit of an ignorant Athenian kid. The whole camp knew that Athenians were known for their strategies. For Laura not to have one kinda made her the odd one out of the bunch.

"Well, I thought that if we were loud enough, it might think we didn't notice it... but then it could pop out of anywhere. Other than that, I have no plan." Luke said. He knew it wasn't the best idea, but at least he was been honest about his lack of them... "To be totally honest, I didn't plan this far ahead - I thought you'd have a better plan, been Athenian and that - plus, I thought we'd be summoning a monster, not letting one find us. Not having the advantage definitely wasn't part of my plan, either."

While it might not have been to plan, at least this had taught Luke something - that things don't always go according to the plan. He now knew that in the fufture, he'd need to make backup plans in case things went wrong, as they usually did. He also knew he wouldn't do such a thing - his memory was at times like the sea. There one minute, gone the next.

"Oh joy..." He added on, sarcastically. "It looks like we're going to have to improvise."

Luke just hoped that they wouldn't get killed. He knew they shouldn't though. He had brought plenty of ambrosia and nectar for Laura, and he had a bottle of water for himself, just in case he needed it. As long as they didn't end up been lunch for the monster, he'd be happy. He really didn't want to die just yet - he was only fifteen for the god's sakes! Plus, to be eaten now would just be plain bad luck - he'd fought monsters most of his life, and had a lot of experience. And he'd got even more when he had turned thirteen.... to be killed now by a lone monster, when he was a child of one of the Big Three would just be embarrassing.

"Oh. . . ." Was all Laura managed to say as Luke spoke. Her face went red, she did look like a fail Athenian. He had been relying on her for a plan and she came up short! How stupid could she get? Frustrated at herself, she forced herself to think even harder. She would come up with something, she just had to think harder! This was so aggrivating! She couldn't think up a thing and she was making a fool of herself. That was never on the top of her 'What I Want to Do Today' list.

At last, a smirk rose to Laura's lips as she whispered, "Then let's be spontaneous." Why follow a strategy or some guide when you could do things however you wanted? Usually this wasn't her strategy, but right now just flowing with what was going just seemed to work best. Besides sometimes it was the best strategy to go with was just your instinct. Right now her instinct was telling her to just jump in and attack.

"Let's be spontaneous," Laura said a little louder as she jumped into the bush. She was sure that her actions would catch his attention and hoped that he would follow. Sure it was a little crazy, but most of the time crazy was good. This seemed to be one of those times where being a little mad helped out. Luckily, she had a very insane mind.

On the other side of the bush, Laura wasn't shocked at all to be looking at none other then a Manticore. Its eyes seemed to stare her down, trying to intimidate her. It didn't work though, a few of her tests had been against Manticores and they had been far stronger then the one standing in front of her. That she was sure of. Its fangs were beared at her as it snarled. "Hi there Fluffy!" She couldn't help but taunt the Manticore a little.

"So you ready?" Laura asked hoping that Luke was actually there standing beside her instead of on the other side of the bush. Before she had time to listen for his answer (if he had followed) the Manticore lunged towards her. She thought she had easily side-stepped the attack, but she had forgotten about its wings which happened to spread out just as she side-stepped. Luckily she had seen it coming at just the right moment and had the chance to duck. The wing barely skimmed over her head, but at least it hadn't caught her head.

Luke was with Laura as she went to the bushes and the manticore jumped out. Laura managed to dodge it, leaving the manticore coming straight at him. Luke threw himself to the side, then picked himself off the ground and looked around just in time to see that the monster had it's tail up. Less than a second later, a thorn was coming straight for Luke.

Luke's skill in defense wasn't the best, and he hadn't really practiced blocking much. After all, before a couple of weeks ago, he'd only had a dagger to use. And so, he tried again to dodge. He got out of the way (just), feeling a pull as the thorn went past him, spinning him slightly. He felt a tug as he spun, and noticed that the thorn had gone through his water bottle, destroying it.

Crap..... Luke thought. The water had been in case he needed healing - after all, a bottle of water wasn't enough to hurt anything. Now it was in a puddle all over the ground, been soaked up by the soil.

Luke went with what instinct told him to do for now - run in random directions, and hope that the thorns wouldn't catch him. Of course, this random direction took him straight to the Manticore. Luke yelled and took a swing at it, but the Manticore batted at him with a giant paw, knocking him away as easily as if he was an annoying fly buzzing around. Luke dropped his sword as he hit the ground. The next thing he knew, the Manticore was on top of him, trying to bite his head off. Luke kept it from eating him by holding onto it's jaws, doing his best to push it away.

At a time like this, his mind should have been in turmoil, and he should have been scared. But he wasn't - all he could think of was how horrible the Manticore's breath smelled. He didn't dare shout out for fear of Manticore drool going into his mouth - there was already a bit starting to leave the Manticore's own, about to go over Luke's face.

Oh gods no... please no! Of course, this mental pleading didn't help. The monster drooled over his face. Ewwww.... that's nasty!

Well that really is spontaneous, Laura thought to herself with a bit of a smile as Luke's waterbottle was caught by the manticore's tail. Of course it wasn't really all that funny seeing as that was what he had planned to use to heal himself if injured. Now where was this water? Oh just a puddle on the ground slowly being sucked into the dry soil. Now if only Luke could waterbend like Katara from one of her favorite animes.

Just after the little waterbottle incident Luke started to run in random directions. This thoroughly confused Laura, but it surely had the manticore's attention. Of course where did this little strategy of his get him? Well just face to face with the big bad beastie. With a snarl it leaped onto him, pinning him to the ground.

While Luke was pinned down by the large monster, ever so slowly drool began to ooze out of its mouth. No matter how disgusting it was, Laura tried her best to keep a straight face and not laugh. Of course it was obvious that she was trying not to because her face was pure red with a smile trying to casually keep the laughter inside. Okay, get ahold of yourself. Would you want that drool dripping onto your face? No! So go chop off that monsters head NOW. After her little mental pep talk/convincing she practically jumped over to where the two were and raised her dagger. With a quick (but careful) swish, the manticore was decapitated. Of course the only place the head could go was down, so of course where did the drool filled head land? Yeah . . . .

Laura turned away right before a sickening SQUISH! could be heard. "Sorry," she said with an innocent, act cute smile as she pushed the head off of him. Offering a hand she gave a smile that asked if she was forgiven. It hadn't been the best of strategies, but it seemed to be the easiest. Inside, she wanted to just take her hand and wipe the drool off his face, but she wasn't sure how he would've reacted to that seeing as most people didn't appreciate having their faces touched.

Teasingly, Laura turned to Luke and said, "I didn't know you liked to make out with manticores. That's an interesting hobbie." She winked at him playfully. Hopefully he would get the message that she was just messing around.

((Fail post -.-))

Just before the Manticore could bite Luke's face off, Laura appeared out of nowhere and sliced it's head off. Unfortunately, it's mouth was still full of drool.... which went all over Luke's face again.

Man, this sucks! He thought to himself.

Pulling off his muddied jumper, Luke wiped the drool off his face. Still not one hundred percent sure it was all gone, he went over to the little puddle on the ground. Concentrating, he made the water splash onto his face, wiping it again. He wished his water bottle hadn't broken. This small bit of water wasn't enough. Still, it got most of the drool off his face.

"Making out with manticores? Nu-uh!" Luke laughed. It had been horrible, but at least he was still alive. That was something to be happy about. "Well, that's one monster down. A few more to go.... But lets find a creek first. I could with some water to wash my face. Manticore drool is disgusting!"

He could tell Laura had been trying not to laugh at his predicament. He wasn't bothered - he knew that if it had been the other way round, as soon as she had been safe Luke would have been laughing at Laura. As it was, Luke was laughing at himself. It wasn't th funniest thing, but he was alive, and that gave him a massive rush.

Laura couldn't help but laugh along with Luke. She was glad that he too found it funny, she didn't want the trip to end almost as soon as it had started. Even though it had only begun she was having a fun time. She was finally getting some real practice in (not against some dummy that didn't attack back) and she was with one of her friends whom she was pretty fond of. Actually for the time being, it seemed as if Luke was the one she was closest to at camp. It was a bit odd to think of it that way seeing as she really hadn't even been friends with one of the opposite gender before. It was a new experience, something she was willing to try.

Laura just kinda stood by and watched as Luke got up to pull what little water he could out of the puddle his waterbottle had made. It really wasn't much, and you could still see the shine from the drool on his face. To be honest he looked a bit like a sparkle pixie with the bit of drool still clinging to his face. That was when a certain song came to mind about one specific pixie. She couldn't help but laugh to herself. Just as she had done so Luke spoke up.

"Haha! I'm sure you enjoyed it!" said Laura as she stuck her tongue out at him. Sure it was a childish thing to do, but life sometimes required for you to be childish. Besides right now she had two choices in life: She could either be a child, or she could be a rat and being a child sounded a bit more pleasant than being a rat. Although others could disagree and say that they would rather be a rat then a child, but Laura thought that being a child was much more fun anyways. Being nice and clean inside a home over being outside on the streets all dirty? It was a no thought decision.

Not really noting that Luke had said something about finding a creek or something, Laura burst out into song before she started to run (luckily in the direction of the nearest creek):

"He sees you when you're sleeping,
He knows when you're awake,
His name is Edward Cullen
So get ready to be rape-AHHH!"

Before she had been able to finish off the last word of the song, Laura tripped on a stone. Of course where was that stone located? At the edge of a creek of course, so she fell face first into the cold water. Oh was it cold! Even though the day was close to blazing hot, the water was freezing! Most would think it would be a nice thing to cool you off, WRONG. It was absolutly bone chilling.

Laura shivered as she stood up and took a step out of the water. She looked down at the flowing water as a breeze went by. Are the Gods against me today or something? she asked herself as she braced for the cold to become even colder. Luckily she wasn't drenched head to toe, but they would probably have to break so she could change. It was all because of how careless she had been. That was always what happened whenever she tried to have fun. She ended up wet, well this was mainly around Luke. There had been a single time when she hadn't and that was on the beach with Alex around aswell. Maybe the son of Posiedon had a curse or maybe she had a curse placed upon herself.

"U-uh L-Luke?" She called out, still shivering. Hopefully he had been chasing her like she had been wanting and would come to help. Maybe he could pull the water off of her and make her dry? That was a possibility. Then they wouldn't have to stop their trip just because she had slipped up. Instead he could wash his face and dry her off then they could get moving again. Cutting the trip so short would not be fun at all.

((>_> It's not long enough >_>))

Luke followed Laura as she ran along, singing the Edward Cullen song. Of course, with this been Laura, the sog ws very quickly foolowd by a scream and a splash. Running up to see what had happened, Luke saw Laura had fallen into the creek that they had been looking for and was absolutely soaked through. He couldn't help himself - he laughed. It seemed like everytime he was with Laura, she ended up getting soaked. Like the first time they met - he had just been claimed and she had fallen over (the first of many times) in the mud and got covered in it. Luke had used his newly found abilities to clear it off her, but soaked her at the same time. Laura had vowed revenge, which is probably what the manticore's drool filled head was. Of course, Luke wasn't going to let that go.... He'd get Laura back sometime. But it seemed she had just got his revenge for him by soaking herself. Luke'd have to think up something else.

As it was, he jumped staright into the creek and shoved his head in the water. Unfortunately, it didn't wash the drool off his face. Why not? Because he wasn't even getting wet!

Well, this is unusual... and sucky. I want to get wet! He thought to himself. As soon as this tought went through his mind, he found that his waterproofness disappeared, and he too was soaked. On the plus side, his face was now clean. Well, that was weird too.... Hmmm.... I wonder.... I wanna be dry! And Luke found himself dry and waterproof again.

Looking over at Laura, he saw the poor lass shivering. He decided to be nice and not let her suffer. That would be a mean revenge. Luke wanted it to be a prankish one. So he went over to her and put his hand on her shoulder.

"Ok, I really hope this works. It's the first time I've tried this, and I've only just found out that I'm waterproof." he told her. He thought the word 'dry', and the water seemed to run off of Laura and back into the creek, leaving her dry. "Wow... this is weird. Well, at least we can get on with this monster hunting. You ok? Didn't scrape yourself too badly when you fell did you? "

When Luke ran over, Laura couldn't help but give him a playful glare as if it was his fault she had fallen into the creek. Of course she knew it was not his fault, and was just messing with him. He probably didn't see her playful glare though because he seemed to run straight for the water, and she couldn't blame him. She still couldn't help but smirk at the idea she had gotten her revenge. Then again it might've been a little too cruel to do that to him. At the time she hadn't thought of it as revenge, she had thought of it as killing a monster and nothing more. Now she realized she had done both.

Laura wrapped her arms around herself as Luke stood up and walked over to her. When he placed his hand on her shoulder, she couldn't help but blush just a little. She smiled when he said it was the first time he would be trying something like this. It seemed everything he did around her was the first. Although she wasn't quite sure what he meant by 'this'. Still with her slight blush on her face she looked at him suspiciously. When the water suddenly ran off of her body and she was left dry, she then understood what he meant.

"No! I-I'm fine!" She said trying to hide her blush. She saw that his hand was still on her shoulder, but walked away as if saying she was ready to do more monster hunting. "Let's just get back t-to fighting some monsters!" Her voice staggered a bit, showing that she was a bit nervous. What the hell is wrong with you? she asked herself as she mentally smacked herself. Why am I so nervous all of a sudden?! She bit her lower lip then swiveled around to meet Luke's face.

"Yup let's get going. Oh and um thanks," her voice went soft at the last part.

Luke noticed the blush on Laura's face but decided not to say anything. He was actually going to play nice for a while, until the time to get his revenge was at hand. And his revenge wouldn't be as icky as Laura's had been. Or maybe he would be really nice and let it go....

Psshhh... Nah! He thought to himself. After all, it was something fun to do. There wasn't much else to do at camp, and it would give him a good reason to be around Laura more. Although she'd probably be keeping her eye on him, to make sure he didn't get back at her so easily... Then again, that would just make it more fun. A challenge was something Luke enjoyed.

"No problem." Luke replied, when Laura said she was fine. "Are you sure you're okay though? Your voice sounds a bit shaky..."

Luke wanted to go fight some more monsters, to show Laura he didn't totally fail, like he had with the manticore. He had thought himself ready to fight monsters, and had been overconfident. That, and he really hadn't expected something so big. At least it hadn't been a hydra or chimera. But that didn't mean one wouldn't pop up later. Luke wished they'd find some more harpies or a hellhound instead. They weren't easy to beat - no monster was - but they were a hell of a lot easier to defeat than the bigger monsters.

Gritting her teeth, but making it invisible to Luke's eyes, Laura turned back towards him. Whatever was happening needed to stop that moment. She didn't need to look suspicious or anything. At the same time she didn't even understand what her problem was. Sadly she couldn't master the feeling she was getting and when she turned back to him the butterflies only grew, but she did manage to not blush this time which was good. Instead she smiled at him and nodded with confidence. It was odd, she thought she had felt that way once before, but she couldn't remember when . . .

"Come on let's keep moving! I'll bet there's at least one monster looking in on us," Laura winked at Luke, "So let's not keep that guy/girl waiting for us! Besides I don't like being the prey." Laughing, she turned back towards the foliage and began to walk. The woods were stocked full of monsters, it wouldn't be difficult to find another one quickly.

((._. Whoaaa . . . . total fail XD))
